Scripting Vibrant Living Beyond An Empty Nest
My positive response to join the sisters’ Camino walk was spontaneous; but not triggered by a religious impulse. I’m grateful for the spiritual groundwork of being raised in a home of faith – experiencing a spiritual presence and purpose beyond myself. But I had never researched the Camino story; which is “historically and fundamentally based on a Catholic pilgrimage centred on the shrine and tomb of the Apostle Saint James (Santiago) in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain.” On returning home I checked through parts of this site https://www.thelivingphilosophy.com/, finding it interesting, and accepting my Camino experience for what it was to me. An adventure, understanding that the journey for all of its pilgrims is their own understanding and expectation.

That being said I wasn’t expecting the “commercial” aspect….for example, along the trail there would be stopping points at little booths or buildings to get your Camino passport stamped. There was usually an expectation for at least a euro for this favour. It makes sense that this influx of people into rural areas where employment is primarily connected to small farms and businesses would encourage entrepreneurs of all ages.
Once pilgrims complete the Camino walk and arrive at the cathedral in Santiago, you can get in line with your stamped “passport” for evidence of your completion. After which you will receive a certificate. (The name on my document says Catharinam Toews – oh welll!)

A personal spiritual practice many pilgrims follow is sharing a daily morning prayer with their walking partners or group. Our morning prayer together was the following – a compilation of thoughts presented from all four of us.

October 14th we arrived at the Cathedral: relieved, fatigued, grateful.: and so ready for a glass of cold water!
A big thanks to Ruth, Carmen and Nancy for their invitation and being such great company.
My Camino story ends here, thank you for checking it out. I anticipate more hiking adventures to come!
Be well, XO
